Deep Dish Dungeon walkthrough: Demo Path and Tools
A Deep Dish Dungeon walkthrough for the Steam demo, with camp cooking, the hammer path, Prison Key notes, and unknown steps marked.
Stuck between a dark camp and a sewer you are afraid to enter? This Deep Dish Dungeon walkthrough covers the free Steam demo route that players actually finished: camp cooking, the hammer, and the Prison Key. A clear Deep Dish Dungeon walkthrough matters because there is no in-game map, and several gates only open after you craft or find the right tool. The notes below separate community reports from what a public demo database has confirmed, and they mark every missing room as unknown rather than guessing a path.
Deep Dish Dungeon, from Behold Studios and Raw Fury, is a first-person survival dungeon crawler. The studio describes it as a survival metroidvania: cooking changes your stats or grants an ability for an expedition, and crafted tools open routes through one connected vertical space. The Deep Dish Dungeon Steam page lists the full game for October 13, 2026, at $14.99, on Steam and Xbox, with day-one Game Pass. This page does not map that full release.
What is confirmed versus what players reported
Two layers of evidence exist. Mixing them is how bad routes get published.

Official screenshot · Source: Steam store
| Layer | What it supports | What it does not support |
|---|---|---|
| Store and studio notes | Demo on Steam since February 19, 2026; Windows-only demo; no time limit; demo save will not transfer; no map or compass; cooking as progression; full game on Windows and macOS; Steam Deck Verified announced September 30, 2026 | A room-by-room path |
| Third-party demo database | Steam build 23,712,006 matched to demo v1013; item, recipe, enemy, and source coverage claimed for that build | A full current route; that database says room maps are still open |
| Player experience | An April 28, 2026 finished-demo post, plus a June 20, 2026 reply on food and the nail | Proof that every step still matches v1013 |
HOLD: the June 2026 demo update is named in that database's guide list, but the change list is not in the source used here. Do not assume the April route survived that patch. Where a step might be version-sensitive, this Deep Dish Dungeon walkthrough says so.
A July 2, 2026 playthrough is reported to reach a thank-you screen. A separate July report places that ending past the Prison Key door. The exact v1013 trigger path is HOLD / unknown.
Pack the camp before you spend iron
The first camp is the hub. Player experience places a cooking pot at the campfire from the start, plus only three iron rods you cannot gather again. Clay, leather, chains, ragged cloth, and logs were also reported as items that playthrough could not produce.
Gather what the dungeon actually gives you, then cook, before you touch those rods.
| You can gather (player experience) | You cannot generate (same report) |
|---|---|
| Stick, rock, wood plank, rat, scrap metal, vines, coal, animal hide | Clay |
| Apple, raw meat, mushroom, wild pepper, algae | Iron rod beyond the starting three |
| Leather, chains, ragged cloth, log |
Those three rods are the scarce gate. The finished-demo report says this craft list stays locked unless you spend rods on it: nail, backpack, kettle, smelter, wood chest, barricade, workbench, water pot, wooden bridge, wooden bow, hammer, grappling hook, pouch, crude leather armor, scrap cape, medium sword, long sword, and grindstone.
Treat that as a budget, not a shopping list. A workbench already exists in one room, the camp already has a cooking pot, and a hammer is reported in the sewers without crafting. Spending a rod to duplicate something the dungeon already placed is the main early mistake.
| Craft that wants an iron rod | World alternative reported? | Practical call |
|---|---|---|
| Hammer | Yes: sewers, after a handcrank | Do not craft it first |
| Workbench | Yes: a room already has one | Do not craft it first |
| Kettle | Camp pot is already placed; the kettle is not confirmed as the same object | HOLD whether a kettle is required |
| Nail | No free nail; a later reply gives it a use | Optional ladder shortcut |
| Grappling hook, bow, swords, armor, backpack, chest, smelter, bridge, grindstone, and the rest | No found substitute in these reports | HOLD: not shown as required to finish |
HOLD: which of those crafts, if any, v1013 forces you to build. Official art shows a grappling hook, a sword, and an iron shield. Those images are not a recipe and not proof that the item is required.
Cook before you push deeper
Food is simpler than the craft menu, and it is the loop you can test on a fresh demo save. That loop is the repeatable part of a Deep Dish Dungeon walkthrough.
Player experience from the finished demo:
- The only food you can eat raw is an apple.
- Almost everything else can go on a rotisserie for a roasted version.
- The camp pot had two working recipes in that playthrough.
| Pot result (April report) | Ingredients as written | What is safe to copy |
|---|---|---|
| Veggies | Wild pepper, mushrooms, and apple | Use all three |
| Stew | Wild pepper/mushroom/apple plus raw meat | Plants from that set, plus raw meat |
The stew's slash punctuation is ambiguous, so the exact plant count is HOLD / unknown beyond "plants from that set, plus raw meat."
Raw meat is the awkward piece. The report says you either build rat traps or grab rats before they hide under debris. Miss the grab and you are back to apples and mushrooms.
A June 20, 2026 reply adds mushroom fish and drumstick stew, made by butchering fish and the large bat near the end. It says you need two of these in the stew. Exact counts per ingredient, buff numbers, and timers are HOLD / unknown. Studio notes say cooking can change stats or grant an ability for an expedition, but no official numbers are in the material used here.
Practical camp order:
- Eat an apple if you need food immediately.
- Rotisserie mushrooms or other gathered food so you are not burning your only raw edible.
- Trap or catch a rat, then cook the meat stew with wild pepper, mushroom, or apple.
- Leave fish and bat butchering until you can fight and swim. Those ingredients are late.
Hammer, water, and the bars that actually break
The largest reported stuck point is the hammer. One player spent about an hour assuming another tool was required, because nothing explains that you can swim. Swimming is required.
Follow the Deep Dish Dungeon walkthrough steps below only as player experience from that April finish, not as a confirmed v1013 map.
- Learn the camp and the rooms around it until you can find water on purpose. There is no compass. Use the campfire room, lighting, and vertical drops as landmarks.
- Enter the water. Community reports say this step is mandatory, even though the first step in feels like a mistake.
- Reach the sewers.
- In the room that already has a workbench, pull the handcrank.
- Take the hammer that the same report places in the sewers after that crank.
- Use the hammer on metal bars.
Terrain from that playthrough, plus the June reply:
| Obstacle | Tool that worked | Status in these reports |
|---|---|---|
| Metal bars | Hammer | Breakable after the sewer hammer |
| Spider web | Torch | Only one breakable web reported |
| Goo pile | None found | Not breakable in that run |
| Rock pile | None found | Not breakable in that run |
| Roots | None found | June reply: still not breakable |
If your build has a new tool for goo, rock, or roots, that result is outside these reports. HOLD / unknown.
The June reply also corrects the nail. The April post thought it had no use. The reply says the hammer can fix a nail to a wall, and that nail plus rope can reach an out-of-reach sewer ladder. Other ways up exist, so the nail is a shortcut, not the only route. Where rope comes from is HOLD / unknown here; it is not on the gather list above.
A forging sequence with more than one mold is described later. The player believed those molds were worth carrying back. Mold names and outputs are HOLD / unknown. Near the end of that demo, weapons could be upgraded with scrap metal and wood planks. Further upgrades asked for a grindstone, which that player could not obtain.
Keys, enemies, and the reported finish
Combat in the finished-demo report is a short list. Nothing else was encountered.
| Enemy | Where player experience places it | Extra note |
|---|---|---|
| Skeleton | Scattered through the dungeon | Also in a two-skeleton room tied to a treasure |
| Scorpion | A hallway off the main room that drops steeply | Not described in other rooms |
| Moray eel | Sewers, only while the water is raised and you are swimming | Easy to meet on the hammer route |
| Large bat | One spawn, outside the forge room | June reply calls it a boss you can butcher |
The key chain, as that player told it: bring the Iron Key to the forge room the large bat guards, and pick up the Prison Key there. This Deep Dish Dungeon walkthrough cannot add the rooms between the sewer hammer and that Iron Key. Those rooms are HOLD / unknown. The third-party database says a full current route is still open, and it flags that some published steps predate v1013.
Optional finds from the same April post, not shown as ending requirements:
- Gold bracelet: after a small-key door, place a wall torch in the room with two skeletons.
- Gold coins: in the rafters of the main campfire room.
- Carranca statue: picked up; the player never learned its effect. HOLD / unknown.
The reported finish is a thank-you screen. One July account puts it beyond the Prison Key door. If you are holding that key and the demo still has not ended, do not invent another key. The exact v1013 trigger is unknown.
Demo progress is disposable on purpose. Behold Studios has said the demo save will not transfer. Keep this Deep Dish Dungeon walkthrough scoped to the demo until a mapped full-game route exists. Online co-op is part of the public feature set, but these sources never settle a player cap. A community thread asks whether four players work and does not answer it here. Player count, cross-play rules, and rejoin steps are HOLD / unknown.
The October 6, 2026 price note was $14.99, €14.99, or £13.99. Named platforms are Steam (Windows and macOS) and Xbox, with day-one Game Pass, plus the Steam Deck Verified announcement on September 30, 2026. Replace the HOLD lines first when a real route exists: required iron-rod crafts, the rooms between hammer and Iron Key, and the thank-you trigger.
FAQ
Is this Deep Dish Dungeon walkthrough for the full game?
No. It covers the free Steam demo, mainly an April 28, 2026 finish and a June 20, 2026 correction, checked against demo v1013 only where a database claimed coverage. The full-game route is HOLD / unknown. Demo saves do not carry over.
Where do players get the hammer?
In the sewers, after the handcrank in the room that already has a workbench. You must swim, and the game does not teach that. A hammer is also on the iron-rod craft list, but crafting it spends one of three rods.
What can you eat raw, and what has to be cooked?
Only apples are reported as edible raw. Other foods go on the rotisserie or into the camp pot. The April pot results are Veggies (wild pepper, mushrooms, and apple) and a stew of those plants plus raw meat. The stew's exact plant count is ambiguous. Fish and bat stews are a later community report and need two butchered pieces; buff numbers are unknown.
How does the demo end?
A July 2, 2026 playthrough reaches a thank-you screen. Another July report places that ending past the Prison Key door. Player experience ties the key to bringing an Iron Key to the forge the large bat guards. The exact v1013 trigger is HOLD / unknown.
