Deep Dish Dungeon Prison Key: Demo Route Guide
Player-reported Deep Dish Dungeon prison key route: hammer, Iron Key, and forge, plus v1013 steps still unconfirmed.
Why the Prison Key Is a Tool Gate, Not a Loot Drop
Stuck players usually hit the Deep Dish Dungeon prison key only after a tool chain, not after a single locked door. The Deep Dish Dungeon prison key is the late-demo item community reports tie to a forge room, an Iron Key, and a Large Bat. This guide sorts those player notes from the narrower facts a v1013 demo database actually pins down, so you do not follow an April route that a June patch may have changed.

Deep Dish Dungeon, from Behold Studios and Raw Fury, is a first-person survival dungeon crawler. The studio calls it a survival metroidvania. Cooking and crafted tools open the way forward, and dishes can change stats or grant an ability for an expedition. No in-game map or compass is planned. Distinct rooms, lighting, landmarks, shortcuts, and vertical links are how you are meant to remember the place.
The free Steam demo is the only hands-on version in these sources. It launched for Windows on February 19, 2026, with no time limit. Behold Studios has said the demo save does not transfer into the full game. A demo database matched its rows to version v1013 and cited Steam build 23,712,006. That write-up says room maps and a full current route are still open, and that some published route steps predate v1013.
Announced full-game details in those notes: October 13, 2026 on Steam and Xbox, day-one Game Pass, and a price set on October 6, 2026 at $14.99 (also given as 14.99 euros and 13.99 pounds). The full listing cited Windows and macOS. The demo listing was Windows-only. Steam Deck Verified was announced on September 30, 2026. Sources gathered on October 14, 2026 still frame that date as upcoming. Day-one changes are HOLD. Confirm the live build on the Deep Dish Dungeon Steam store page before you treat a forum route as current.

Community Route to the Deep Dish Dungeon Prison Key
Treat every Deep Dish Dungeon prison key step below as player experience unless a later row says otherwise. The clearest chain is a Steam discussion post from April 28, plus a June 20 reply. The April player thought they had finished the demo. Later coverage warns that hammer advice and parts of that route may predate v1013. Use the order as one finished playthrough, not as a checked v1013 map.
Swimming works immediately. It does not look obvious, and stepping into water feels risky, but the hammer path requires a swim. That player spent about an hour assuming some other tool had to come first.
The hammer used on metal bars is reached in the sewers after you pull a handcrank in the room that has a workbench. The same post also lists Hammer among recipes you cannot make unless you spend a starting Iron Rod. It never says whether the sewer hammer is a pickup, a craft, or both. HOLD that distinction.
Breakable terrain in that clear: metal bars with the hammer, and one spider web with a torch. Goo piles and rock piles did not break. The June reply adds roots that also cannot be broken yet.
Community reports place the Deep Dish Dungeon prison key inside the forge room, not on the bat itself. A Large Bat has one spawn and guards the outside of that forge. You bring an Iron Key there and receive the Prison Key. Where the Iron Key comes from is not described. HOLD the Iron Key source and any extra lock between the bat and the forge interior.
A separate July report, cited secondhand, puts the demo thank-you screen beyond the Prison Key door. A July 2, 2026 playthrough is said to reach that screen. Neither note shows the build number or the full v1013 trigger. "Clear the bat, use the Iron Key, open the door" is a community outline, not a verified script for the current demo.
| Order | Gate | What players did | Pitfall |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Water | Swim with no swim-gear recipe | Water looks unsafe, so the hammer path never starts |
| 2 | Workbench room | Pull the handcrank | Hunting a new recipe instead of the room |
| 3 | Sewers | Get the hammer after that crank; break metal bars | Goo, rock, and roots were not hammer targets |
| 4 | Web | Burn the one breakable spider web with a torch | The hammer does not replace the torch |
| 5 | Forge exterior | Defeat the single Large Bat | Combat check; later also a cooking source |
| 6 | Forge room | Bring the Iron Key; take the Prison Key | Iron Key location is HOLD |
| 7 | Prison door | July notes: thank-you screen past this door | Build and full trigger path not shown |
Three different keys show up in the same thread. Mixing them up sends you hunting the wrong door.
| Key in the reports | Role players described | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Small key | Opens a door on the way to a two-skeleton room and a gold bracelet | HOLD |
| Iron Key | Carried into the forge room | HOLD |
| Prison Key | Handed over at that forge; a July note ties its door to the thank-you screen | Bring the Iron Key (player experience; may predate v1013) |
Hammer, nail, and the sewer ladder
The hammer is the stall that sits in front of any Deep Dish Dungeon prison key run based on this report. Learn the sewer branch before you optimize gear.
The June reply corrects the April claim that nails have no use. The hammer can fix a nail to a wall. In the sewers, an out-of-reach ladder can be climbed with that nail and rope. The same reply says other ways up exist, so skipping the nail is not a dead end.
Nail is on the April list of recipes that take a starting Iron Rod. That playthrough could not generate more rods: only the three you start with, plus the cooking pot already beside the campfire. A rod spent on a nail, a hammer recipe, a hook, or a weapon is gone. Per-recipe counts were not posted. HOLD costs.
Named rooms, without a fake map
These spaces are named in player experience. The passages between them are not. Do not turn this table into turn-by-turn directions.
| Named space | What reports attach to it | Connection |
|---|---|---|
| Main campfire room | Cooking setup; gold coins in the rafters | Used as a hub; links not mapped |
| Workbench room | The handcrank | Direction not given |
| Sewers | Hammer, required swim, moray if water is raised, nail-and-rope ladder | Entered by swimming; full path HOLD |
| Steep hall off the main room | The only scorpions | Not described as the forge approach |
| Two-skeleton room | Small-key door, then a wall torch and a gold bracelet | Small-key source is HOLD |
| Forge exterior | The only Large Bat | Approach path HOLD |
| Forge room | Iron Key in, Prison Key out | Interior steps HOLD |
The April post does not say the handcrank is what raises the sewer water. It describes both a crank and a raised-water swim with a moray. HOLD any claim that one lever does both.
What You Can Carry While You Look
If your goal is only the Deep Dish Dungeon prison key, do not burn Iron Rods on armor or a grindstone first. The April craft names locked behind those rods were Nail, Backpack, Kettle, Smelter, Wood Chest, Barricade, Workbench, Water Pot, Wooden Bridge, Wooden Bow, Hammer, Grappling Hook, Pouch, Crude Leather Armor, Scrap Cape, Medium Sword, Long Sword, and Grindstone.
That player could still upgrade weapons near the end with scrap metal and wood planks. Further upgrades needed a grindstone, which they said was not available. HOLD whether v1013 or the full game added it.
They could generate stick, rock, wood plank, rat, scrap metal, vines, coal, animal hide, apple, raw meat, mushroom, wild pepper, and algae. They could not generate clay, extra iron rods, leather, chains, ragged cloth, or logs. Scrap and planks feed the late upgrade. Rats feed the pot. The sewer reply mentions rope but not its recipe. HOLD whether rope is crafted from vines or found.
| Could generate (April player experience) | Could not generate (same report) |
|---|---|
| Stick, rock, wood plank, rat, scrap metal, vines, coal, animal hide | Clay; iron rod beyond the starting three and the camp pot |
| Apple, raw meat, mushroom, wild pepper, algae | Leather, chains, ragged cloth, log |
Food is part of the same trip. In the April notes, only the apple is eaten raw. Most other foods can be rotisseried into a roasted version. At the pot they found a veggie mix of wild pepper, mushroom, and apple, and a stew that adds raw meat. Slot counts were not published. Raw meat came from rat traps or from grabbing rats before they hid under debris.
The June reply adds mushroom-fish and drumstick stews, made by butchering fish and the late bat, with two of those meats in the pot. The Large Bat outside the forge is the only late bat those posts describe, so the fight can be both the gate and a cooking run. Specific buff numbers are HOLD. These sources say dishes can change stats or grant an ability, and they stop there.
| Reported dish | Inputs players named | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Eaten raw | Apple only | Other foods were not eaten raw |
| Roasted | Most foods, on a rotisserie | Buff not listed |
| Veggies | Wild pepper, mushroom, apple | Slot counts not listed |
| Meat stew | Those plants plus raw meat | April report |
| Fish or drumstick stew | Butchered fish; butchered late bat | June reply; two of those meats |
| Enemy | Where the April clear found it | Route note |
|---|---|---|
| Skeleton | Spread through the dungeon | Also in the bracelet room; not the key |
| Scorpion | Hall from the main room into a steep drop | Not described at the forge |
| Moray eel | Sewers, only in raised water while swimming | Shares the swim with the hammer errand |
| Large Bat | One spawn, outside the forge | Guard for the Iron Key turn-in |
Optional April finds, not required for the key: a gold bracelet after a wall torch in the two-skeleton room once the small-key door is open; gold coins in the main campfire rafters; a Carranca statue with no known effect. HOLD the statue. The June reply asked for spoiler tags on those spots. Skip them if you only want the key.
Forging gets one firm line and one impression. The firm line is the turn-in: Iron Key at the forge room, Prison Key out. The impression is that different molds looked worth carrying back for different results. HOLD mold names, and HOLD whether the Prison Key is forged or simply stored in that room.
Screenshots show a grappling hook and a camp with pot, fire, workbench, and chest. A screenshot is not a demo recipe. Whether v1013 lets you craft the hook is still the April rod limit until you check your own build.
What Stays on HOLD for Demo v1013
Until a v1013 room map exists, the Deep Dish Dungeon prison key route stays partly on HOLD. The useful form of that limit is a deny-list of specific gaps.
| Question | Status |
|---|---|
| Full v1013 trigger, including every door after the key | HOLD. July notes lack the build and the full path |
| Which April steps a June 2026 demo update broke | HOLD. Coverage flags pre-v1013 steps and does not print a replacement route |
| Iron Key source | HOLD |
| Whether the handcrank raises sewer water | HOLD. Both are described; the text never links them |
| Red-bar obstacles | HOLD. Named in a guide heading, never defined here |
| Recipe counts for nail, rope, and hammer | HOLD. Uses are described; costs are not |
| Carranca statue | HOLD |
| Player count and cross-play | HOLD. The available FAQ leaves the count blank |
| Full-game key location after October 13, 2026 | HOLD. Not in this source set |
| Grindstone and extra weapon tiers | Absent in the April demo; later builds unknown |
Play inside that gap with a few checks that the reports do support:
- Learn the walk back to camp before you pull an unfamiliar crank.
- Test a short swim the first time you see water. If you still lack the hammer, the sewer branch is unfinished.
- Keep a starting Iron Rod until you know whether your build's hammer is found or crafted.
- Keep a torch after you own a hammer. The reported web ignores the hammer.
- At the Large Bat, expect the forge turn-in nearby. The report says you bring the Iron Key. It does not say the bat drops the Prison Key.
- If the forge does not match this description, stop and recheck the Steam build.
Item and recipe pages were said to be filled for v1013, while the route page was still open. Those filled pages are not in this source packet, so none of their rows are copied here. If your hammer is not in the sewers, trust the build you are playing and treat the April chain as outdated player experience.
How to Tell a Stale Route from a Real Block
A stale note can still teach the logic behind the Deep Dish Dungeon prison key: swim, crank, hammer, bat, Iron Key, forge. It cannot prove the current door order. An April 28 clear, a June 20 reply, a July 2 thank-you playthrough, and a v1013 database match are four snapshots. Unmarked, they get quoted as one route, which is how an unnamed Iron Key started to sound solved.
Most stuck moments in this material are missing observations, not missing rare drops. The April player thought the hammer needed another tool. It needed a swim and a crank. The nail looked useless until a hammer pinned it beside a high ladder. The moray appeared only in raised sewer water, so a dry pass read as an empty room.
| Symptom | Reading that fits these reports | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Bars you cannot break | Hammer not obtained yet | That clay, logs, or a grindstone will help |
| Water you will not enter | Swimming already works | That a bridge recipe must come first |
| A web in the way | Use a torch | That every web breaks; one was called breakable |
| No Prison Key after the bat | Iron Key not brought in, or this is not the forge | That the bat drops the Prison Key |
| No thank-you screen | July path was past the Prison Key door, on an unnamed build | That v1013 ends on the same input |
| No Iron Rods left | The starting three were spent | That a fourth rod will drop |
Camp cooking still helps the trip when it is not the key itself. A pot, a fire, and a known loop back to camp let you roast food and cook stew before the eel and the bat. Rat traps are the repeatable meat plan if grabs fail. No source here gives health or damage figures, so there is no honest numeric food buff. HOLD combat stats.
Co-op is not a documented shortcut. Players asked whether four-player sessions existed. The compiled notes never answer the count. Do not plan this key around a party size these sources leave open.
Date your own notes and write down the demo version. If a step in this article disagrees with the client you launched, the client wins.
FAQ
Where do players find the Deep Dish Dungeon prison key?
In the April community report, inside the forge room, after you bring the Iron Key. A Large Bat guards the outside of that room. It is not described as bat loot. This is player experience and may predate demo v1013.
Do you need the hammer first?
That report places the hammer in the sewers, after a handcrank in the workbench room, and uses it on metal bars along the way. Swimming is required. It does not show the hammer as a crafting ingredient for the key itself.
Does the Steam demo end when you use the key?
A July 2, 2026 playthrough reaches a thank-you screen. Another July report puts that ending past the Prison Key door. The build and the full v1013 trigger are not shown, so the ending condition stays incomplete.
Will the full game use the same route?
Unknown. Sources list an October 13, 2026 release on Steam and Xbox and say the demo save will not transfer. They do not document the full-game key. Recheck the live Steam build before you reuse demo notes on a purchased copy.
